What are the benefits of Myolnositol and Selenium?

Population surveys (source NHANES Ill) have demonstrated that the normal values range, in which must be the blood values of TSH, is from 0.4 to 4.0 mUI/L. In particular, TSH values higher than this range and between 4.0 and 10.0 mUI/L with normal FT3 and FT4 define a condition known as subclinical hypothyroidism. This condition may increase the risk of developing full blown thyroid diseases. Recent studies showed that the association of Myolnositol and Selenium in subjects with TSH higher than 4.0 mUI/L leads to an improvement of this hormone values, returning the levels into the recommended range.

What is the physiological function of Myoinositol and Selenium?

Myoinositol is a polyol present in membrane phospholipids and its main biological role is to be the second messenger of different hormones e.g. insulin, FSH and TSH. In particular at thyroid level, Myoinositol is involved in the organification of iodine necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Selenium is an essential trace element which contributes to the normal thyroid function. Literary review has demonstrated that Selenium, as a cofactor of selenoproteins, is involved in the thyroid homeostasis, immune system modulation, hormone balance, cellular protection. Selenium deficiency can cause thyroid diseases.
